Team History
The Pod Movement was formed after our school’s initial foray with ‘Eagle’ kit cars.
Our first car was R-Pod, a streamlined, enclosed car that we raced in blue for the 2005 season, then with a sponsor change was had a red car (with new wheel covers) for 2006. It was a fairly innovative design with bamboo & plywood over a semi-structural steel sub-frame. As usual, it always takes longer than you think & the paint was still wet for our first race at castle Combe in 2005. We had pretty good success with this car, with two heat wins, a 14th & 10th place in the final, along with several TV appearances and other events.
With the ban on enclosed cars & some of our drivers exceeding 6 foot tall we had to make a new car for 2007. After many weeks of ideas, design schemes & debate, we settled on the radical twin-bodied R-PodS design. Unfortunately, the debate had taken so long that we were running out of time to finish it so it was wet paint again for Castle Combe 2007 (at least it was a quicker drying paint this time).
During the summer of 2007 after his GCSEs, Alex designed & built C-Pod (a formula catapult car) with help from Joe & Sam. This only managed one race with very limited development before this category was cancelled at the end of the season.
We had to re-think our plans for 2008 after the rule changes and considered rebuilding C-Pod as an F24+ car. We finally decided to do some work updating R-PodS and in parallel, to build an F24+ car for our ageing drivers! Y-Pod? was born.
We have been a close knit team over the years. Two of our members that have left (Matt & Sam) still keep in touch & help with marshaling at races occasionally. Our current team consists of Alex & Joe in F24+ & Izzy, Matthew, Aaron, Felix & Louis in F24.
