The Meaning of Pod

I am sure that there are quite a few people that don’t know how the name R-Pod came about, and therefore don’t understand the name R-PodS (this was brought to our attention when C-Pod was entered for the catapult final as C-Pods…).

As R-Pod wasn’t finished until the last minute before castle combe we hadn’t really thought about a name for it, so we were entered as Rotary Racer 2.
We didn’t like this, so we racked our brains for a different name. We were initially going to call it ‘Pod’ because some people had said it looked a bit like a pea pod or an escape pod. When we were told we had to have rotary in the name, we just put an ‘R’ in front of it, this not only solved our problem, but it also sounded like ‘our’ said in a Somerset accent.

We gave our new car the name R-PodS because it has two ‘Pods’ rather than just the one, we made the ‘S’ really big just to confuse things and because it looks cool, like the Aston Martin DBS.

This is why C-Pod isn’t C-PodS, it’s because it only has one ‘Pod’.

The rebuilt R-PodS in 2009 was named R-PodS SSC in part to make it difficult for the race comentators & partly as it is our Second S Car.

As for the name Y-Pod? - well, why not pod? ..
It was renamed S-Pod (Sergeant - Pod) for the corporate chalenge 2009 in recognition of our sponsor 'Major Lift'
The '!' was added for the 2009 season for reasons that are slightly tricky to explain in writing. If you're really interested you can come and find one of us at a race...!
